Daniel Migliosi

Daniel Migliosi may still be classified as a ‘young talent,’ but he already has a wealth of experience as a musician. The 20-year-old trumpeter from Luxembourg studies in Cologne and explores and travels the world of jazz as a member of various orchestras and as an artist with his own band. Since May 2024, he has been supported by the Grizzly Jazz Foundation as a scholarship holder.

Born in 2004 in the small Luxembourg town of Esch-sur-Alzette, both his family and wider social circle offered him numerous musical opportunities. With various orchestral experiences, such as the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (OPL) and the Luxembourg Military Big Band, as well as prizes at the Concours Jeunes Solistes, a career in music became increasingly tangible. He had also already had his first encounters with jazz alongside his classical training.

While Daniel Migliosi was still studying at the conservatory and attending secondary school, he met Andy Haderer at a wind instrument workshop. Haderer is a professor of jazz trumpet at the Cologne University of Music and Dance and lead trumpeter of the WDR Big Band. In 2019, Daniel Migliosi began studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.

Daniel Migliosi has now moved permanently to Cologne and is studying jazz trumpet full-time. Since 2021, he has been one of the young musicians of the WDR Composers Fellowship and works regularly with the WDR Big Band.

In May 2024, Daniel Migliosi presented his second album of original compositions, “On The Edge”, this time produced entirely by himself without a label. For the release tour, the band will play concerts in Paris, London, Berlin and at festivals in France, among other venues.

Meanwhile, orchestral experiences remain important for Daniel Migliosi's musical development. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Orchestre National de Jazz France and the JugendJazzOrchester NRW. From 2023, he will play for two years in the BundesJazzOrchester BuJazzO. ‘That was another new experience, because you play on big stages and in a professional environment.’ And last but not least, sponsors can discover talent there. This is how the Grizzly Jazz Foundation finds particularly gifted young jazz musicians in the BundesJazzOrchester. Daniel is now a permanent substitute in the famous Glenn Miller Big Band.
